Hinges and descriptions

Hinges come in all shapes and sizes to suit a variety of different applications.

	Butt hinge Butt hinges are probably the most common hinge, they are mainly used for household doors.
	Rising butt hinge These are used to lift the door as it opens and will automatically close when let go. These are sometimes used on cubicle doors in public places.
	Lift off hinge Two part hinge, which can allow a cupboard door to be lifted off and removed.
	Piano hinge Acquired the name due to the extensive use for securing the lid of a piano. Used where any cupboard door or lid requires support along its entire length. The hinge can be cut to any length.
	Flush hinge A lightweight hinge similar to the butt hinge. Its advantage is that it fastens directly on to the surface, thus avoiding the need to cut a recess.
	Concealed hinge Used to fasten cupboard doors.
